Chocs winner!
Student Nicky Thomas (pictured above with Swansea Met Assistant Librarian Suzanne) was the winner of our recent Valentine's Day promotion chocolates!
If you recall, last month we asked you to express your love for your Swansea Met Library, either by going on a 'blind date' with a book, taking part in our Facebook or Twitter poll, or lastly by following our Library Facebook, Twitter or Blog pages.
We had a great response, and we hope that everyone who took part found something new to love about their Swansea Met Library along the way!

LGBT resources donated by MetSU
We’re extending a big thank you to the Swansea Metropolitan
Students’ Union Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Society today as they
have kindly donated some resources to the library. The booklets, reports and
guides can be found at Townhill Library as it was felt that they could be
particularly helpful for our future psychologists, counsellors and teachers who
may come across issues around homophobia in their careers. The donations cover
a range of areas including inclusive practice in the workplace, the portrayal
of gay people in the media, homophobia in schools and setting up institutional
support for gay, lesbian and bisexual people. For the full range, simply type
the words donated by the MetSU LGBT
Society into our Library Catalogue Quick Search.
Many of these resources have been produced by Stonewall, the
charity which campaigns for the rights of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals. If
any of these issues concern you, or if you’d simply like to find out more about
Stonewall’s work, you can take a look at their website: http://www.stonewall.org.uk/.
You’ll find material about Stonewall’s research, access to publications,
details of key legislation and information about campaigns. For information and
advice closer to home, check out the MetSU LGBT page
which links through to information on the main NUS site.

Tell us what you think!
Image: By Phil Bradley/ Flikr |
We value your opinions here at Swansea Met libraries, which is why each year we conduct a user satisfaction survey to give you a chance to let us know what you think is good or bad about the service we provide. This year in particular, since opening a brand new library at Swansea Business School, we look forward to hearing what you have to say!
It's really quick and easy to complete our survey - it is available online (in English and Welsh) via our website from Monday 11th March until Sunday 17th March 2013 and will only take a few moments of your time.
As an added incentive, if you provide us with your email address at the end of the survey, we'll enter you into a free prize draw to win an 8GB USB memory stick.

Happy World Book Day!
In case you didn't know, today is World Book Day! To celebrate, each of our Swansea Met libraries has a themed book display (and some lovely decorations!)...if you venture to Townhill library today you may even encounter a few members of the library staff in fancy dress as famous children's characters!
Townhill library have a 'school' theme for their book display, the Griffith library at Dynevor have chosen 'children's illustration', the Owen library in Mount Pleasant has a display of 'new books' for their FADE students and here at Swansea Business School library we have chosen an 'Olympic' theme that may interest our Sports, Tourism and Events students. So there's something for everyone!
There are also other celebratory events going on at Swansea Met today...the Primary PGCEs are having a reading corridor at the Townhill campus this morning, where they will be reading aloud from children's books and raising money for Save the Children...staff and students from the department will also be coming in fancy dress!
We will also be putting your literary knowledge to the test on our library Facebook page today...every hour throughout the day we will post an image of a book cover, with the title removed, to see if you can guess what it is, so have a look and see how many you recognise!
HAPPY WORLD BOOK DAY EVERYONE!
