The opening hours of our UWTSD Swansea libraries are slightly different during the Easter vacation period. All opening hours for each library are listed below. Please check before you visit. We look forward to seeing you!

Good news re: Griffith Library opening hours!

As of Monday 21st September, the Griffith Library at Dynevor will open 15 minutes earlier in the mornings, from 8.45am Mondays to Fridays. This will initially be as a trial for the whole of Autumn term, so do come in and take advantage of this! (Please note it will be self-service only until 9am).

·         Opening Hours – We do our best to be open at the times you need us most. In addition to standard opening hours, we offer evening and weekend opening during term time, we also keep some libraries open on Sundays and Bank Holidays where possible. All opening hours are on our website, just check before you leave home!

·         OnlineLibrary – The library buildings may not be open all day, every day, but we can still offer a 24/7 library service with the help of our Online Library! All you need is your university login and password and you’ll have access to a vast collection of Ebooks, Ejournals, Enewspapers, statistics, industry and company reports, case studies and much more...all at the touch of a button and in the comfort of your own home! Just visit the library website and follow the link...

·         Oxford Reference Online – Looking for a concise dictionary definition, alternative words from a thesaurus, or a famous quotation? Try Oxford Reference Online (one of our many databases in the OnlineLibrary). Think of it as a virtual reference shelf containing all the specialist dictionaries and encyclopaedias you could ever need! 

May Day Holiday

This May Day Bank Holiday, Monday 4th May you will be able to use the Owen and Townhill libraries, which are open from 12-5 pm. Please note however that we are only offering self-service.

The Griffith Library and Swansea Business Campus Library will be closed, but all four libraries will resume term-time opening hours on Tuesday 5th May. Have a lovely bank holiday weekend all!

Christmas vacation opening hours

The end of term is very nearly upon us! We hope most of you will be taking some time to relax over the vacation, but we also know that a lot of you will have exams to revise for and assignments to prepare (sorry to bring that up!). As such, your UWTSD Swansea libraries are open for part of the Christmas holiday, including Christmas Eve! Please check library opening hours on our website (links below) if you would like to visit us after the 12th December, as our vacation hours do differ from our term-time opening.

Please note, in line with the rest of the university, the libraries will close on Christmas Day and reopen for the start of term on the 5th January 2015. Our online resources will of course still be available and are accessible off-campus, so you can settle down to an ebook or journal article wherever you are this vacation! If you prefer something more tangible, any books, DVDs, etc. that you borrow over the holiday period will be issued out until the 16th January 2015, so you'll have plenty of time to get the most out of them.

Summer opening hours for UWTSD Swansea libraries

Borrow some beach time reading from us this summer
and you won't need to bring it back until the 3rd October!

With the graduation ceremonies this week, it really does feel as though the academic year has come to an end. However, we at the library will be flying the flag for knowledge and information all summer! We understand that a lot of you are part-time students who rely on the vacation times to catch up, and that there’ll be a few of you anxious to get a head start on you dissertation before the new term comes along. Some of you might even have a couple of resits to think about before you can move on!

So, for you, and anyone else who’s after somewhere to study or books from our shelves, we do remain open over the summer vacation period. We will be shut for evenings, weekends and bank holidays, but generally speaking we are open Monday to Friday throughout. Please do check our opening times if you’re planning a visit, though, as we may have to close unexpectedly, and some libraries may need to close for lunch. (There aren’t so many of us around in the holidays!) You’ll find the latest information under the Notices section of the library homepage, or just give us a ring to check. You’ll find your library phone number on the date labels of your books, on our website, and listed below!

Easter vacation opening hours

Well, spring is in the air and we’ve even had a glimpse of sunshine this week. It must be time for a holiday! Today is the last day of term for most of you (apologies for those of you who still have some time to go – we don’t mean to rub it in!) and we hope you’ve got a nice break ahead of you. Some of you will be working hard over vacation, though, and UWTSD Swansea libraries will be open if you’d like to come in to borrow some books or find a place to study. Please check our opening hours under the Notices section of the library homepage, and remember that opening hours can vary between libraries, so do check the details for each library that you plan to visit.

Remember our electronic resources such as e-books and journal articles are available 24/7 and can be accessed anywhere in the world, just as long as you can get online. Could be useful if you’re leaving Swansea for the holidays, or just fancy spending the day in your pyjamas! We also offer extended loan periods over vacation, so any book, DVD, etc. you borrow from today or during vacation will have a due date of the 2^nd May. That goes for weekly, two-day and overnight loans too, so now’s the time to grab them!

Christmas vacation opening hours

Well, there are just 13 sleeps to go until the big day and just a couple of days left of term for most of you! We hope you've all got a nice break to look forward to and that you won't be working too hard preparing for assignments and exams. In line with the rest of the university, all libraries will be closed from the 24th December until the 2nd January. Please check the Notices section of our homepage for opening hours outside this period. (NB Opening hours vary between campuses, so please check the details for each library you're interested in visiting.)

Books, DVDs and other items borrowed over the vacation will have a due date of the 17th January, so you'll have plenty of time to get them back to us in the new term! And remember, our online resources are available off-campus, so you can access e-books, journal articles etc. from wherever you are over the holidays.

Library Opening Hours - Spring Bank Holiday weekend!

If you are planning on using our Libraries this Spring Bank Holiday weekend, please see below for information on opening times:

Saturday 25th May - all four Libraries will be open from 10.00am - 4.00pm

Sunday 26th May - Owen & Townhill Libraries will be open from 12.00pm - 5.00pm

Monday 27th May - Owen Library will be open from 12.00pm - 5.00pm

All four libraries will re-open again on normal term-time hours from Tuesday 28th! Enjoy your long weekend :-)

If you are planning on using our libraries this Bank Holiday weekend, please see below for information on opening times:

Saturday 4th May - all four libraries will be open from 10.00am - 4.00pm

Swansea Met closed due to snow!

Swansea Met has announced that it will be closed today (Friday18th Jan), so that means the libraries are closed too, sorry. Our online resources are still available, of course, so please take a look at our databases and ebooks if you have any studying to do. Online resources are accessible from the library website. Find ebooks using the Library Catalogue Quick Search near the top of the homepage. To access online journal articles, try the Digital Library by clicking the blue link on the homepage, or our databases, which you can access by clicking on your subject area near the bottom of the homepage.

If you are planning to visit one of our libraries over the weekend, please phone before you set out as some or all libraries may be unable to open if there is still a lot of snow around. Contact numbers for each library are on the website and below:-

See you in the New Year!

We’ve just heard that Swansea Metropolitan is closing this afternoon. Campuses will re-open on Wednesday 2^nd January. As such, the Swansea Met libraries will be closing at 12pm today. We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause.
 
Owen Library at Mount Pleasant campus and Townhill Library will re-open on Wednesday 2^nd January, with Swansea Business School Library and Griffith Library at Dynevor following suit on Monday 7^th January. You can check our opening hours under the Notices section of our homepage. Remember, our online resources will be available throughout the Christmas period.

Bank holiday closure

All three SMU Libraries will be closed this bank holiday Monday and Tuesday (4th and 5th June). If you need to stock up on books or other resources (maybe a DVD or two now that the weather has taken a turn for the worse!), all three libraries will be open tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am to 4pm. Owen Library at Mount Pleasant and Townhill Library will also be open from 12pm to 5pm on Sunday, though as usual this will be for self-service only. If you have any questions, you'll find contact details for your library by clicking the link on the library homepage.

Three sleeps to go!

Christmas day is nearly upon us and SMU will soon be shutting down for the festive period. In line with the rest of the university, the libraries will be closed until the 3rd January. That's no reason not to catch up with your studies on Boxing Day, though, as our online resources are available from our website throughout and can be accessed anytime, anywhere, just as long as you have an internet connection and a valid username (the P-number on your ID card) and password.

We wish you all the very best over this vacation period, however you choose to spend your time, and look forward to seeing you all back again in 2012! Good tidings to you all!

It's the end of term next week (is that cheering I can hear?!) but did you realise that all SMU libraries are still open during part of the vacation as well? All three libraries will be closed from December 23rd until January 2nd, but for the rest of the vacation period we'll be open for business. For full details of our festive opening hours at all three libraries please check the library website...oh, and don't forget, all our online resources will still be available even when we are closed! Happy Christmas everyone!

Townhill Library open evenings and Saturdays

For most of you, the start of term is still a week or two away, but with the arrival of the Secondary PGCEs cohort today (welcome!), it's almost back to business as usual for SMU's Townhill Library. We aren't quite back to a full term-time service yet, but opening hours for this week are as follows:-

8.30am - 9pm Monday to Wednesday
8.30am - 5pm Thursday
8.30am - 7pm Friday
10am-4pm Saturday

Please note the 5pm closure on Thursday. This may continue for a few weeks due to staff shortages. Sorry for any inconvenience this might cause. Keep an eye on the Notices section of the library homepage for updates on opening times.

Owen Library and Griffith Library are still operating vacation hours, but Mount Pleasant and Dynevor students are welcome to use Townhill Library, so please feel free to call in and take advantage of our extended hours.

Bank Holiday closure

Please note that our three SMU Libraries will be closed over the bank holiday weekend, including Monday 29th August. We re-open (still on vacation hours) on Tuesday 30th August, and any books and other items that you borrow will still not be due for return until October!

So have a nice long weekend, and make the most of your SMU Libraries during the rest of the summer vacation!
